The Richards Gordon School, located at 1619 Dayton Avenue, was constructed in 1911. Designed by Ray R. Gauger, additions were added in 1917 and 1923 to enlarge the school to a total of 18 classrooms. The architect for the second addition was Frank Tewes. Richards Gordon, for whom the school was named, arrived in St. Paul in 1854 and founded the Gordon Hat Company, later the Gordon-Ferguson Company, a wholesale furrier.
